Brief overview of the project

MEGA Group is the independent system provider in the German market of the future for restoration, renovation and modernization. Founded in Hamburg in 1901 by a handful of tradesmen, MEGA can look back on a 111-year tradition as a cooperative this year. Today, the company is owned by over 5,300 independent painters, plasterers and master floor layers and is the largest independent trading company in the industry. In the meantime, approximately 1,500 employees at over 100 MEGA Group locations give their all for the trades every day, and therefore for more than 43,000 customers. The full range of products for professional tradesmen includes paints and plasters, floor and wall coverings, insulation systems, dry building materials, construction equipment, machinery and tools as well as banking and insurance services from their own MKB SME Bank AG.

The project was based on three mainstays: the new warehouse, EWM implementation and centralization of the process management. The biggest challenge was the implementation of the central warehouse concept: formerly decentralized processes were merged at the Hanover location and could be realized in the new warehouse. By integrating the "floors" warehouse and an additional storage location for "paints", we were successful in bringing together four original decentralized storage locations. The EWM introduction was accelerated on the basis of Rapid Deployment processes. The Rapid Deployment Solution (RDS) allows for the quick and easy implementation of SAP EWM using preconfigured processes and modular solutions with full cost control and close to the standard. As a next stage of development for the central warehouse in Hanover, MEGA eG plans the takeover and complete integration of delivery logistics in adjacent shipping locations in the Hanover area and beyond.

The new central warehouse fulfils several functions at the same time. The following segments have been integrated in Hanover: floors, paints and accessories. Customer satisfaction comes first: the merging of locations allows for short lead times and a quick response for a comprehensive service. This is how MEGA eG achieves the greatest possible added value for the different contexts of the buyers. In addition to the order processing for mail-order customers, private customers also can pick up small amounts in the warehouse shop at the same time. Individual shades of colour and orders are made up in the paint mixing centre on site. The flexible design covers oversize articles (e.g. moulding) and different pallet sizes. SAP EWM allows for highly flexible and accurate mapping.
